As a Mechanical Design Release Engineer, you will be responsible for leading product development activities in the last-mile delivery space. This will include utilizing an agile approach to create innovative designs that are focused on our customer pain points. In this role you will be responsible for mechanical designs completed both in house and by partnering closely with our supply base. As an individual contributor you will use your analytical ability in the design, development and implementation of technical solutions focused on mechanical design and integration.
- Engineering development for various Brightdrop products - including requirements gathering, concept generation, detailed design, prototyping, analysis & verification testing, cross functional reviews and manufacturing release.
- Understand, dissect, and solve complex design challenges, both independently and as a member of a design team.
- Champion a human centered design approach to product development efforts.
- Efficient and appropriate use of design tools including hand sketches, spreadsheets, solid modeling software (CAD), workshop tools, catalog suppliers, rapid prototype technologies, and testing methodologies to conceptualize, design, prototype, and document the mechanical designs of parts and assemblies.
- Create well-structured parametric models of parts and assemblies in CAD that include documented feature trees so they can be easily understood and modified by your colleagues.
- Evaluate designs before down-selecting to the most preferred using methods such as FMEA to appropriately evaluate risk or Pugh Matrix to compare multiple concepts against ranked requirements.
- Participate in brainstorming and conceptualization efforts to provide input into design solutions for system architecture development, mechanism alternatives, component part breakups, and manufacturing process options.
- Use proof-of-concept models and other early evaluation methods to test various approaches.
- Practice best in class CAD modeling techniques to create comprehensive CAD databases.
- Develop QC and/or detail drawings which communicate design intent and critical to quality characteristics.
- Support the fabrication and evaluation of verification prototypes, and evaluation the capabilities of suppliers as appropriate.
- Provide status updates to Project Managers and pro-actively seeking to make sure that project goals, tasks, open issues status, schedules, and budgets are understood and in alignment.

- BS in Mechanical Engineering with minimum of 5 years relevant experience, or MSME (or equivalent) with minimum 3yrs relevant experience.
- Experience designing mechanical systems and assemblies in NX and/or Solidworks.
- Familiar with core mechanical engineering analysis tools such as FEA, FMEA, Pugh Matrix etc.
- Understanding of mechanical tolerances and ability to perform tolerance analysis.
- Awesome analytical and organizational skills; ability and commitment to produce timely and highly accurate work.
- Fluency with Outlook, Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
- Knowledge of DFM practices and experience with a variety of manufacturing processes including injection-molded plastics, formed and stamped sheet metal, castings, extrusions, welding, adhesives, finishes, etc.
- Positive attitude and ability to do creative thinking.
